Robby Raney made his performing debut at the age of two, singing “Jesus Loves Me”
at the dedication of his sister, Macayla. After the song was finished, he burped, picked his nose, and ran back to his seat with one shoe on and one shoe off.
Encouraged by his friends and family, he began to sing at the end of his junior year in high school. He joined choir his senior year and never looked back. Since 2009 he has been a core member of many choirs and smaller ensembles, including the HimSingers and Cohortis Brachia Castigata Beata Iuditha (a HIP ensemble named after a favorite teacher). He is also a charter member of the East Tennessee Symphonic Choir.
Robby is a frequently sought-after baritone soloist and is often invited to offer worship in music at church services around the country. In addition to these domestic appointments, he has been featured in concert tours in Panama, Scandinavia, and Madagascar.
An avid church musician, Robby served on the worship committee at the Collegedale Seventh-day Adventist church while completing his Bachelor of Music degree in education from Southern Adventist University. His greatest joy is leading a congregation in the active worship of God through singing. During the Covid-19 pandemic, seeing the neglect of congregational song in streamed services, he planned, wrote, edited, and hosted a series of weekly, thematic song service videos which can be found on his YouTube channel.
Upon completing his bachelor’s degree, Robby moved to Washington State where he taught grades 3-8 for two years. He then accepted a call to move back to Tennessee to serve as head teacher at Jellico Christian Academy, a position he held until 2021.
He completed a Master of Music degree in music ministry at Andrews University where his research interests included Seventh-day Adventist composer F. E. Belden, the vocal and organ music of the German Baroque (especially J. S.) Bach, the works of Charles Ives that are heavily influenced by traditional hymnody, and the history of temperaments and tuning systems.
He is the General Manager at Classical 90.5 WSMC in Collegedale, TN and also is an adjunct professor of voice at the School of Music at Southern Adventist University.
